About

OrientDB is the leading open source NoSQL multi-model database that empowers strongest enterprises and the applications they build. While supporting scalability, OrientDB allows the organizations to unlock the true power of graph databases without having to deploy multiple systems to handle other data types, which increases performance and security

Miri Infotech is launching a product which will configure and publish OrientDB, a NoSQL document database which is embedded pre-configured tool with Ubuntu and ready-to-launch AMI on Amazon EC2.

OrientDB supports the graph, document, key/value, and object models as because of it inherit feature of multi-model database. In this relationships are managed as in graph databases with direct connections between records. Schema-less, schema-full and schema-mixed modes are also supported by OrientDB. Based on users and roles and supports querying with Gremlin along with SQL extended for graph traversal, OrientDB has a strong security profiling system as well. As of September 2017 OrientDB is the third most popular graph database according to the DB-Engines graph database ranking.

Some features of OrientDB are:

  • Quick Installation –  OrientDB runs in less than 60 seconds and can be installed easily.
  • Fully transactional: It guarantees that all database transactions are processed reliably and in the event of a crash all pending documents are recovered and committed as it supports the ACID transactions
  • Graph structured data model: native management of graphs. Fully compliant with the Apache TinkerPop Gremlin (previously known as Blueprints)] open source graph computing framework.
  • SQL: It manage trees, and graphs of connected documents and do supports SQL queries with extensions to handle relationships without SQL join
  • Web technologies: OrientDB natively supports RESTful protocol, HTTP and JSON additional libraries or components.
  • Distributed: It includes geographically distributed clusters and the full support for multi-master replication
  • Run anywhere: allowing It allows to be run on Linux, OS X, Windows, or any system with a compliant JVM and is implemented using pure Java.
  • Embeddable: OrientDB is the perfect for scenarios where the database is embedded. It uses local mode to use the database bypassing the Server.
  • Apache 2 License: No fees or royalties required to use it. It is always free for any usage.
  • Full server has a footprint of about 512 MB.
  • Commercial support is available from OrientDB.
  • Pattern matching: Introduced in version 2.2, the Match statement queries the database in a declarative manner, using pattern matching.
  • Security features introduced in OrientDB 2.2 provide an extensible framework for adding external authenticators, password validation, LDAP import of database roles and users, advanced auditing capabilities, and syslog support.
  • Teleporter: OrientDB allows the relational databases to be quickly imported into in few simple steps.
  • Cloud ready: OrinetDB supports the following providers: Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, CenturyLink Cloud, Jelastic, Digital Ocean and can be deployed in the cloud.

You can subscribe to OrientDB, an AWS Marketplace product and launch an instance from theOrientDBproduct’s AMI using the Amazon EC2 launch wizard.

To launch an instance from the AWS Marketplace using the launch wizard

  • Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/
  • From the Amazon EC2 dashboard, choose Launch Instance. On the Choose an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) page, choose the AWS Marketplace category on the left. Find a suitable AMI by browsing the categories, or using the search functionality. Choose Select to choose your product.
  • A dialog displays an overview of the product you’ve selected. You can view the pricing information, as well as any other information that the vendor has provided. When you’re ready, choose Continue.
  • On the Choose an Instance Type page, select the hardware configuration and size of the instance to launch. When you’re done, choose Next: Configure Instance Details.
  • On the next pages of the wizard, you can configure your instance, add storage, and add tags. For more information about the different options you can configure, see Launching an Instance. Choose Next until you reach the Configure Security Group page.
  • The wizard creates a new security group according to the vendor’s specifications for the product. The security group may include rules that allow all IP addresses (0.0.0.0/0) access on SSH (port 22) on Linux or RDP (port 3389) on Windows. We recommend that you adjust these rules to allow only a specific address or range of addresses to access your instance over those ports
  • When you are ready, choose Review and Launch.
  • On the Review Instance Launch page, check the details of the AMI from which you’re about to launch the instance, as well as the other configuration details you set up in the wizard. When you’re ready, choose Launch to select or create a key pair, and launch your instance.
  • Depending on the product you’ve subscribed to, the instance may take a few minutes or more to launch. You are first subscribed to the product before your instance can launch. If there are any problems with your credit card details, you will be asked to update your account details. When the launch confirmation page displays.

Usage/Deployment Instructions

Step 1: Open port 4000 in security group while launching a instance.

Step 2: Open the URL: http://<instance ip address>:2480

<instance ip address>: IP address of the running EC2 instance.

Step 3: click on “New DB” and fill the name of database and the following details:

Server user: root

Server password: miri

Database management software can help you create and manage your databases so you can easily capture and analyze data. This easily accessible data often leads to greater business insight, helping you refine your data-driven efforts.

These things vary on the sizing/number of the application transactions and/or hardware considerations for the database. For more details on this you need to request for Database Planning with our support team.

For Databases, a database administrator requires the following skill set: Database monitoring, sound knowledge of database architecture, re-organization, backups and recovery, jobs, batch scripting, performance tuning, database routines, database internals and trouble shooting.

In a rough sense, it is similar to the Post-Triggers of the database world. But with functions, the action is already completed at the data-layer, and the event handler just gives an interface by which developers can key in the logic of what needs to happen ‘after’ the action is done. What a function sees is the actual event of the change, and hence it does not directly correlate with Database Triggers.

It totally depends on the application interface that you are using. These are some following ways,

    • You can verify only from the front-end when application interface shows view functionality of the data you enter. Mainly, Black box test engineers do this functionality verification test in this way.
    • If application interface doesn’t provide view functionality of the data you enter, then you can check for database update by using relevant SQL/Oracle query.

It is a process of analyzing the given relation schemas based on their functional dependencies and primary keys to achieve the following desirable properties:

    1. Minimizing Redundancy
    2. Minimizing the Insertion, Deletion, And Update Anomalies

Relation schemas that do not meet the properties are decomposed into smaller relation schemas that could meet desirable properties.
